Council has approved moving forward with the application process for the West Coast Inland Navigation District grant which provides funding for waterway projects that promote safe navigation and water-based activities. The WCIND (West Coast Inland Navigation District) Waterway Development Program Proposal Form for Sub-grantees is a Lee County waterway grant program provided through the Lee County Natural Resources Division, with applications solicited almost one year in advance of funding.
Eligible projects must relate directly to navigation in Lee County and must address one of the following categories: Navigation Improvements, Boating Safety, Environmental Education, Nautical Recreation, or Law Enforcement.
Staff plans to use the funds acquired from the WCIND grant for continued Marine Law Enforcement on Lee County waterways of the Imperial River and beach areas at a cost of approximately $80,000.00. $40,000 of which will be awarded from grant funding with a required match from the city for the remaining $40,000 of the project's total cost to be budgeted in the 2020-2021 Fiscal Year.
