The City of Bonita Springs West Terry Street Improvements Project is underway. This initiative creates a new sidewalk along the south side of West Terry Street, extending from US 41 (Tamiami Trail) to Old 41 Road. The proposed project aims to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility by providing a continuous pedestrian path on the south side of the corridor. The new design will also incorporate a closed drainage system with curb and gutter to efficiently manage stormwater.

If you applied to FEMA after Hurricanes Debby or Helene and have additional damage from Hurricane Milton, you will need to apply separately for Milton and provide the dates of your most recent damage.

Effective today, October 13, 2024, the curfew previously put in place for Hurricane Milton, of 10:00pm to 7:00am, has been lifted.

Hurricane Milton caused destructive storm surges in coastal areas of Bonita Springs, along with tornadoes and wind damage throughout the community. City staff continue to assess the damage and clean-up efforts are underway.

Bonita Springs, October 12th, 2024 – The City of Bonita Springs announces the reopening of Parks and Recreation facilities following the impacts of Hurricane Milton.

The City of Bonita Springs has initiated the recovery process following Hurricane Milton. City residents, who can safely do so, are asked to place any storm-generated debris on the public right-of-way. The public right-of-way is the area of residential property that extends from the street to the sidewalk, ditch, utility pole or easement.

The City of Bonita Springs enacts a curfew for the Bonita Beach. Until further notice from the City, all persons in the Bonita Beach area, including Little Hickory Island and Big Hickory Island, are prohibited from being abroad in vehicles or on foot between the hours of 10:00pm and 7:00 am.

The Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) released their Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) on September 20, 2021. The announcement included funds allocated by the President for emergencies and major disaster declarations that occurred between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2021. Included in the announcement was funding for HMGP-COVID and Hurricane Sally.

On October 18, 2023, City Council approved an agreement with Lee County Natural Resources Division for West Coast Inland Navigation District grant funding in the amount of $40,000 for support of the marine unit of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office to provide on-water patrol primarily in the Imperial River and Estero Bay.

On September 6, 2023, Council approved a Master Agreement and Task Order #1 with Portland State University for State-mandated and optional Comprehensive Plan Amendments.

The second reading for changes to the Bayview on Estero Bay CPD/RPD were read at the city council meeting on October 4, 2023.

The proposal was obtained competitively through a Lee County contract for minor paving, drainage, and concrete improvements (Contract #B200333AEJ).

On October 7, 2020 City Council approved a CDBG-CV entitlement contract with Lee County Human and Veteran Services for the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as part of the CARES Act program. The contract provided for an expiration date of February 28, 2023.

Earlier this year, the City completed its State-required Evaluation and Appraisal Review (EAR) of the City’s Comprehensive Plan. The purpose of the EAR process, which occurs every seven years, is to determine whether plan amendments are necessary to reflect changes in state requirements during the cycle.

On February 2, 2022, Council approved a Professional Services Agreement with Stantec Consulting Inc. to design a Wayfinding Signage and Gateway Feature Master Plan for the City. Similar to the City’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan, this master plan will create a road map for future capital improvement project recommendations.

Resident participation meetings throughout unincorporated Lee County and in municipalities are planned in August to receive public comment and input on the Draft Action Plan for the $1.1 billion Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds received from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Council received the first reading of the following ordinance: an ordinance of the city of Bonita Springs, Florida, amending chapter 24 - Flood Hazard Reduction - to clarify the definition of market value as applied to existing building in special flood hazard areas; providing for conflicts of law, severability, codification and scrivener’s errors, and an effective date.

LCSO has provided the attached partially-executed Fifteenth Addendum to the Second Agreement for Enhanced Law Enforcement Services, maintaining the current level of service, for an amount not to exceed $2,543,356.08, which includes all vehicles and equipment, two sergeants, and seventeen deputies (including a detective).

On July 5, 2006, Bonita Springs City Council approved the execution of loan mortgage in favor of Partnership in Housing, Inc., for Pueblo Bonito Phase III, for a rental project from the Affordable Housing Trust Fund, in the amount of $400,000.

On April 19, 2023, City Council gave staff directions to proceed with changes to the Sea Turtle Ordinance, Article II, Chapter 7 of the Land Development Code.

The City of Bonita Springs invites the public to its annual Star-Spangled Bonita - 4th of July 2023 Event. The celebration will take place on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, in downtown Bonita Springs Riverside Park- 10450 Reynolds St, Bonita Springs, FL 34135- starting at 6:00 p.m.

The City of Bonita Springs Backyard Hen Program began in 2015 as a pilot program to test the need and viability for allowing a limited number of permit holders, capped twenty-five (25) households, the ability keep up to four (4) hens on property, subject to corresponding permitting approval and regulatory standards.

Pursuant to the Council’s direction, the attached draft ordinance provides the Council with authority to designate no-thru-trucks zones by resolution.

The 2023 Sea Turtle Nesting Season starts on May 1st and runs through October 31st from 9PM to 7AM. Below are some guidelines you should follow to make sure this nesting season is a safe one for our marine wildlife.

The Bonita Springs Memorial Day Ceremony is an annual service held on Memorial Day to honor those who have died while serving our country. This event is coordinated by the Bonita Springs Veterans Advisory Committee.

In response to the extensive and widespread devastation caused by Hurricane Ian, the Lee Board of County Commissioners has unanimously voted to establish the Recovery Task Force in accordance with the FEMA National Disaster Recovery Framework.

On September 7, 2022, the City Council approved the Thirteenth Addendum to Second Agreement for Law Enforcement Services, which provides for two sergeants and fifteen deputies (including a detective) dedicated to community policing in Bonita Springs.

On September 28, 2022, Hurricane Ian made landfall as a direct hit to Lee County as a Category 5 storm. It was the largest hurricane to make landfall here and is the fifth largest storm in U.S. history. The City of Bonita Springs experienced over 12+ feet of storm surge and sustained winds of over 155 mph. Hurricane Ian impacted all City parks, our beaches, and various City-owned infrastructure.

The City of Bonita Springs will be holding the Celebrate Bonita Festival this year on April 29th, 2023. This event is held in commemoration of the City’s incorporation.
