Since the dawn of time earth’s moon has lit up our nights and created a sense of wonder in humankind. Luckily, the city of Bonita Springs has been fortunate to acquire a moon to call its own. Currently on display at Bonita City Hall, “Moons of the Galaxy”, is one of the latest creations from Pinellas County artist, Clayton Swartz. The towering metallic sculpture was approved by the Art in Public Places Board (APPB), to be featured as a permanent fixture to highlight the city’s commitment to the arts and beautification of the community.
Standing 15ft tall “Moons of the Galaxy” displays an array of cylindric and spherical shapes accented by vibrant hues. The metallic sculpture implores various artistic techniques that are both visually and emotively captivating.
About the artist.
Florida native, Clayton Swartz, became intrigued with artistic expression at a young age. The lasting impressions of the welded creations of his father inspired him to embrace art as not only a form of expression, but a career. Taking the techniques learned from his father and combining them with his formal Art education at the University of South Florida, Clayton has been able to put his own unique spin on sculpting using metal and paint.
