A redesigned entrance honoring the historical nature of Bonita Springs Elementary School will greet students, staff, and visitors to the campus as part of a renovation and remodeling project. An agreement between the School District of Lee County and the City of Bonita Springs calls for a 16-foot-tall likeness wall that replicates the exterior of the school’s original building from 1921, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

“Thank you to our partners at the City of Bonita Springs for their collaboration during this process,” said Superintendent Dr. Denise Carlin. “Working together, we found a financially responsible solution that meets the future education needs of our students, while also paying tribute to the history of Bonita Springs. I am excited about the work we have done together and will do in the future.”

“The City of Bonita Springs thanks the School District of Lee County for its commitment to preserving an important piece of Bonita Springs history,” said Councilman Nigel Fullick. “Many residents have special memories of their time at Bonita Springs Elementary, and it brings some satisfaction to see a cherished piece of our past memorialized and honored. This solution exemplifies the City’s dedication not only to maintaining the rich heritage of Bonita Springs but also to recognizing our responsibility to the future of our children. Together, we can strive to create a legacy that respects our past while nurturing the potential of future generations.”

The School Board of Lee County is anticipated to approve the Total Project Cost for the renovations and remodel at its June 3rd meeting, which allows the project to begin. The new facilities and the likeness wall are scheduled for completion by the start of school in August 2027.
