Upcoming Projects -Downtown Bonita Springs - Summer 2025
The City of Bonita Springs is excited about the new projects in the downtown corridor. The initiative to improve and revitalize downtown began in 2017 with the Downtown Improvement Project. The City invested in roadway improvements, on-street parking, enhanced storm drains, and landscaping. In recent years, the private sector has also invested in downtown Bonita Springs, bringing even more amenities to the downtown corridor. A public/private partnership with Barron Collier DT Bonita LLC to develop the property known as the Bamboo Lot into a mixed-use area that will include retail spaces, residential units, and public parking facilities has started construction. To accommodate special events in the corridor, the lot was available during the initial construction phase. Beginning December 1, 2025, the Bamboo Parking Lot will no longer be available for public parking. With the removal of parking spaces from the Bamboo Lot, local organizations and event planners have been encouraged to explore alternative parking solutions. On-street parking and parking at the Felt’s Avenue lot is still available; please see the public parking map below.
In addition to the project mentioned above, upgrades are in the works for some of the city-owned spaces downtown. Riverside Park renovation will enter phase 2 for construction in April 2026. The park will be closed in April 2026 until phase 2 is complete by winter 2026, but will temporarily re-open to host the city’s beloved Star Spangled Bonita Event on July 4th. The Banyan Lot will be under construction in early spring 2026. This project features a new splash pad with enhanced lighting and a restroom facility. The project should also be complete by winter 2026. For more information about the enhancements happening in the downtown corridor, visit https://www.cityofbonitasprings.org/downtown_events. The webpage will be updated as the project information becomes available.
Event organizers are encouraged to explore alternative options when planning future events. Coordination with local businesses may be needed to explore shared parking arrangements. This could involve designing specific areas for event attendees or creating a partnership allowing eventgoers to park at these locations. To facilitate transportation from remote parking areas, event organizers might consider acquiring permission for staging on neighboring businesses’ property and hiring shuttle services.
While significant changes are coming to the downtown corridor with private businesses opening and with the development of the Bamboo Lot starting May 1, 2025, there are various strategies organizations can adopt to mitigate potential issues related to parking availability during events. To assist event organizers, the city has created a planning toolbox.
Event’s Planner Toolbox
- A dedicated webpage that will be updated as more details become available.
- Parking graphics for planners to use while planning events in the downtown area.
- A list of options for organizers to consider while planning events.
This page will be updated as more projects start. Growing pains are likely, but once these projects are complete, we are excited for all to enjoy an enhanced vibrant downtown. If you would like to further discuss options, please contact us at 239-337-1071.
