Council has approved city staffs request to submit a grant proposal for the Federal Recreational Trails Program through The Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The Recreational Trails Program is federally funded through the United States Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The purpose of the program is to provide funds for projects that provide or maintain recreational trails (biking, hiking, Multi-use paths).
If awarded staff plans to use the funds toward the Pine Avenue Multi-Use Pathway Project. The project would create a multi-use path along Pine Avenue from West Terry Street north to the City’s Recreational Center’s covered basketball courts and would allow for wider pathways and upgraded landscaping and lighting similar to those recently installed along West Terry Street. Pine Avenue is the connection between the recently upgraded improvements along West Terry Street and the City’s Recreation Center.
